Initial Assessment

The initial assessment process is individualised and based on the reason for referral and the needs of your child. Parents/caregivers are expected to be present for the assessment process and (with your consent) we often take video of the initial assessment for analysis during the parent consult following the assessment. Depending upon your child’s needs, you may be required to complete online assessment forms in addition to the physical assessment. We use a combination of observational and standardised assessment tools and the results of these will be discussed with you, along with treatment approaches, planning and goal setting, at the parent consultation following the assessment. Reports can be arranged as requested.

Individual Session

Individual sessions involve the child, therapist and a parent/caregiver. These sessions are individualised to the child’s needs/goals.  Therapy sessions are play based in nature with the addition of more structured activities as needed and according to the child’s profile and goals. Individual session can take place at the clinic, home or school, depending on the child’s needs and therapist availability.

Peer Session

Peer sessions are a great opportunity for kids to play, have fun and develop friendships in a supported social environment. Our peer sessions are play based and we use a combination of a DIR/Floor time, sensory integration and social thinking principles to support children to meet their goals.

Peers are carefully matched to ensure each child’s goals can be addressed. We use a developmental approach when matching children and frequently have children of different ages within the one group. The maximum number of children in one group is 4 children with two therapists.

Travel

  • To be agreed upon prior to services delivered, when travelling on behalf of the client.

  • Where more than one service is provided within the same area, expenses will be apportioned to each client, considering relevant benefit and budget of each client.

Parent Consult

A caregiver/parent is the expert of their child. For this reason, at ABC OT we believe that therapist/caregiver consultations are equally as important as therapist/child sessions. During your time with ABC OT you will be encouraged to attend regular parent consults via zoom, phone or in person to discuss treatment approaches, progress towards goals areas and any other concerns or issues relating to your child.
